UPDATED: Wanted Sex Offender Caught

The U.S. Marshals Service in New Mexico on Tuesday arrested fugitive sex offender Henderson Burke Jr. near Shiprock, the Marshals Service said in a news release.

Burke was added to the marshals’ New Mexico Most Wanted Program last week, and investigators working with local and tribal police learned that Burke was in a residence off Old Truck Route Road, the release said.

Deputies and officers with the Marshals Service Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT) approached the residence and were able to take Burke into custody without incident, according to the release.

Burke will be held in one of the marshals’ contract jails until he can appear before a federal judge.

He was being sought in Bernalillo County for failing to register as a sex offender and for not complying with terms of his release from prison, where he served 63 months on a sex-abuse conviction.
