Freddy’s Planning to Open in Early 2013

The Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers on Paseo del Norte should open by early next year.

The custard is coming.
The first Albuquerque location of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is scheduled to open by late January or early February at 6240 Paseo del Norte NE. It’s one of the new buildings going up in front of Lowe’s near the intersection of Paseo del Norte and San Pedro.
Ken Brock, a partner in the franchise bringing the restaurants to New Mexico, said the larger plan calls for seven to 10 locations statewide. Four of those will likely be in the Albuquerque metro area, although Brock said there are no serious negotiations happening yet for additional sites.
“I don’t have any kind of a hard dates to work with here,” he said. “Right now my focus is to get this (first location) up.”
So what’s Freddy’s?
The first location opened in 2002 in Wichita, Kan. and Freddy’s has since become one of the fastest growing chain restaurants in the country.
Its namesake steakburgers are “made from premium quality, lean beef” and cooked fresh to order, according to the Freddy’s website. Brock said the burgers will likely run between $4-$6.
The custard, meanwhile, will come in vanilla or chocolate and can be tweaked with a variety of toppings.
For the uninitiated, the scoopable dessert is “like the Cadillac of ice cream,” Brock said, with a richer flavor that comes from having more eggs.
