Imagine You’re a Bank Teller

It has recently come to my attention that some software at the state level has been down for awhile, and one of the things this software does is issue checks to all 89 New Mexico school districts, giving them their monthly allotment of state money. This year for Albuquerque Public Schools, that monthly amount is $52,321,180. Scroll down to see it.

That’s a lot, which is why I think it’s funny that some poor state employee had to hand write these checks. And while far be it for me to criticize anyone else’s handwriting, there is something about the sloppy printing on this check that makes it look decidedly unofficial. Can you imagine being the bank teller who received this check? Folks at APS are planning to call the bank and let them know this check is coming, so they won’t be too surprised by a handwritten check for more than $52 million.
