Actor Steven Michael Quezada, who plays Agent Steven Gomez on the hit Albuquerque-based show “Breaking Bad,” is running for the Albuquerque school board.
Quezada confirmed he is running in District 5, a newly created board district on the West Side of Albuquerque. There is no incumbent in that district, and as of about noon, Quezada was the only candidate who had filed in District 5. The filing deadline is 5 p.m. today.
In an email sent from the set of “Breaking Bad,” Quezada confirmed his intention to run. He later sent out a news release, saying he wants to impact the lives of children.
“The incredible challenges our schools face require a Board Member who is committed to change and innovation,” Quezada said in the release, “Albuquerque’s my home. I want my kids and all of our children to be able to go to any public or charter school and receive and excellent education. It’s our responsibility to make sure no child falls through the cracks.”
Three of Quezada’s four children attend the Public Academy for the Performing Arts, an APS-authorized charter school, where Quezada has been active on the governing board.
