El Norteño opened a second location in late November. The new restaurant is located at 4410 Wyoming NE in the same shopping center as Party City and Michael’s.
El Norteño is now dishing out fish tacos and chicken mole at two Albuquerque locations.
Owner Monica Manoochehri recently opened a second location of her Mexican grill at 4410 Wyoming NE. That’s the same shopping center as Michael’s and Party City. El Norteño has taken over the old Yen Ching spot.
It is open 8 a.m.-9 p.m. daily.
The new location will serve the same Mexican foods customers have come to expect since El Norteno first opened in the mid-1980s.
But the new site will also offer a few extra treats.
That includes a selection of baked goods such as biscochitos and conchas (a Mexican sweet bread that looks a little like a seashell).
Manoochehri also plans to add a traditional New Mexican favorite to her lineup — sopaipillas.
“It’s more New Mexican (than Mexican), but we just want to give the public what they want — good quality food and sometimes they’re ready for a sopaipilla (too). I can’t blame them,” Manoochehri said. “I love them too.”
El Norteño’s other location is just a few miles south at 1431 Wyoming NE. It will likely remain open for another year until the lease expires, Manoochehri said, but it is slated to switch to lunch-only hours (11 a.m.-2 p.m.) in the new year. The owner doesn’t expect it to remain open beyond 2013.
She said the new location is more comfortable. It has a larger kitchen and space to seat about 95 customers.
