U.S. Border Patrol agents in the El Paso sector seized more than 770 pounds of marijuana over the New Year’s holiday, officials told the El Paso Times on Wednesday.
The seizures were made in separate cases ranging from Fabens, Texas, to southern New Mexico, the Times said.
On Sunday, agents patrolling the desert near Fabens and southern New Mexico found several bundles of marijuana, hidden under rocks and plants in three separate locations, apparently stashed to be picked up later, the paper reported.
Also on Sunday, agents seized 127 pounds of marijuana found in the speaker box of a vehicle stopped at the U.S. 70 checkpoint near Alamogordo, and a woman traveling with two children was arrested and the children handed over to a relative, the Times said.
On New Year’s Day, Deming station agents on all-terrain vehicles arrested two men from Mexico who they said were trying to smuggle 90 pounds of marijuana into the U.S. from Mexico, according to the Times.
