Satellite Coffee Changing Look and Menu

Change is brewing at Satellite Coffee.
The locally owned, eight-location coffeehouse chain will get a fresh design and new menu as Satellite — originally an offshoot of Flying Star  — aims to forge its own identity.
The association between sister companies Flying Star and Satellite “has been instrumental in strengthening both but the time has come to distinguish the two entities,” according to the company’s news release. “Even though Satellite Coffee has its own name and locations, the new identity will serve to separate the two brands and pave the way for future growth.”
The Satellite at 1131 University NE will be the first to get a makeover. It will close at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, to begin the overhaul.
It will re-open with a new interior design intended to provide a “warm, welcoming space” on Thursday, Jan. 10, according to a news release.
The changed menu — which was not available on Friday — is expected to include many new options, especially for breakfast.
Other Satellite locations will then follow suit, according to Susan Barham, the company’s field marketing manager. She could not provide a timetable for the chain’s complete transformation.
Satellite’s origins can be traced to a small coffee roasting operation inside Flying Star’s Nob Hill location. Its first independent location opened in 1998 at Central and Carlisle.
