Nibbles: Slate at the Museum Cafe

The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History is known for its fine art and history exhibits. Adding to its excellence is the Slate at the Museum Cafe. I take advantage of my foundation membership and docent status by eating there regularly. In fact, it has become one of my favorite places to go for lunch or coffee or brunch on any day.

The menu includes salads, soups, sandwiches, breakfasts and “bigger stuff,” all prepared in-house with fresh ingredients. Each item has an added “twist” that sets it apart.

I always treat myself to a cup/bowl of creamy green chile chicken soup. My entrée may be a salad, like the Avocado Caprese (avocado, mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, fresh basil and balsamic reduction) or a sandwich, like the unique Ham and Brie with its homemade apricot mustard. It is served on a baguette with a side salad. Another favored choice is the Albuquerque Turkey on sourdough with matchstick fries. There is a daily special, soup and dessert. Drinks include speciality coffees. Portion sizes are not overwhelming and prices are reasonable ($6-$10).
