The race to become Albuquerque’s next mayor will swing into gear this weekend, when Pete Dinelli becomes the first candidate to formally announce a campaign.
In the Sunday Journal, I’ll have a comprehensive rundown on who’s likely to run, who’s out and the latest on whether Mayor Richard Berry will seek re-election. Some surprising names are among the list of potential candidates — both from the left and the right.
Dinelli is a former city councilor who also served as chief public safety officer under then-Mayor Martin Chavez. He’s a Democrat. Berry is a Republican.
Dinelli has worked as a prosecutor and workers’ compensation judge. He’ll launch his campaign Sunday afternoon.
