“An Evening with Maestro Guillermo Figueroa” on Jan. 20 at Congregation B’Nai Israel will feature music and fine dining.
The event will start with wine and hors d’oeuvres at 5:30 p.m. in the Social Hall, with supper following at 6:30 p.m. The concert will be at 8 p.m. in the synagogue’s sanctuary. A dessert reception will follow.
Figueroa, on the violin, will be accompanied by cellist Pamela Pyle and pianist James Holland. The evening’s program will feature Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Jewish Trio,” which includes melodies reminiscent of Jewish folk tunes. Another selection is John Williams’s “Suite from Schlinder’s List.” Figueroa is familiar to local audiences as the former music director and conductor of the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra from 2000 to 2010. He currently directs the Figueroa Art and Music Project. Most recently he received a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Classical Album for his performance on the Naxos label CD “Cordero: Caribbean Concertos for Guitar and Violin.”

Menu choices for the dinner are prime rib, roast beef, chicken in wine or vegetables in puff pastry, prepared under the direction of Chef Chris Buchalter. House-made potato knishes and a vegetable medley complete the menu. Fine wines will be served with the meal, and the gala dessert reception will feature a celebratory cake.
