Giddings Appointed County Assessor

Bernalillo County commissioners unanimously agreed Tuesday to appoint Tanya Giddings, government relations officer for the University of New Mexico, as the new county assessor.

Giddings was among about 20 applicants who sought the job after Karen Montoya stepped down to join the New Mexico Public Regulation Commission.

Giddings has worked as a civilian in the Albuquerque Police Department, where she oversaw the Runaway Detail Unit. She also worked in the assessor’s office at one point.

“This is where I started in 1993,” she said just after the appointment.

Also nominated from the appointment was Christie Humphrey, Sandoval County’s chief deputy assessor and a 2010 candidate for Bernalillo County assessor. Commissioner Wayne Johnson nominated her but voted for Giddings when her name was considered first.

Art De La Cruz nominated Giddings.
