Albuquerque’s official Weather Service low this morning of 8 Fahrenheit appears to be the coldest temperature the metro area has seen since Feb. 4, 2011, when it dropped to 7F. (The day before that, you may remember if you were here, it hit -7F, the “big freeze” that lead to natural gas shortages around the state.)
This morning’s low is not a record. Albuquerque’s coldest Jan. 13 was -5 in 1963. Record lows for January are all in the below zero to single digit range for Albuquerque. But it’s already colder than it was at any time during our record warm 2012. And it could be Wednesday before we see the temperature rise above the freezing mark, according to the Weather Service.
