Downtown Grocery Vote Expected on Thursday

We’ll get a pretty good idea soon of whether Mayor Richard Berry has succeeded in luring a full grocery store to Downtown Albuquerque.

A city development commission is weighing the responses to a request for proposal and is expected to pick a winner on Thursday. The selection doesn’t require City Council approval.

Berry announced in June that he’s offering an acre of city land as an incentive to lure a grocery store into the heart of the Downtown core. In August, my colleague Leslie Linthicum looked at improvements to the Lowe’s grocery store near 11th and Lomas.
