Kerry Jones showed a lovely satellite image during today’s weekly National Weather Service briefing that captures both New Mexico’s current dry weather and the promise of things to come:

The brownish blob on top of the four corners states is dry air, and that white and green is a pile of moisture that could be headed our way. “This is going to be coming at us in pieces,” said Jones, a forecaster at the Weather Service’s Albuquerque office.
For now, the brown blob corresponds to warm temperatures, with a high tomorrow (Wed. 1/23) that could be the warmest we’ve seen since December for parts of the state. In Albuquerque, that means a high in the upper 50s to low 60s. But start paying attention to the forecasts beginning Friday as you pick the clothes to wear. You might need some protection against rain beginning Friday night and into Saturday, with another wave of wet after that.
