Updated: APD Puts Cop Busted in DWI on Leave

Updated: 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27

Albuquerque Police Department Chief Ray Schultz said a detective who was arrested for driving drunk early Saturday has been placed on administrative leave and relieved of all duties, according to a department spokeswoman.
Edwin Linson, 41, was pulled over for speeding by Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office deputies at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday and faces a speeding and drunken driving charge. He was driving an unmarked police vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
A spokeswoman did not know whether the leave is paid or not.
Schultz said he was deeply saddened by Linson’s decisions and the detective will face the most serious repercussions, according to the spokeswoman.

An Albuquerque Police Department detective was arrested early Saturday morning for driving drunk in his unmarked police vehicle, according to the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office.

Edwin Linson, 41, was initially pulled over for speeding at around 2:15 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 550 near Interstate 25, said Lt. Keith Elder of the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office. Elder said Linson refused to take a Breathalyzer test. He didn’t know whether Linson failed a field sobriety test, and what led deputies to charge him with drunken driving. He also was charged with speeding, Elder said.

Elder said he did not know if Lindson was on duty.

A call to an APD spokesman Saturday night was not immediately returned.

As a result of the charges, APD was called and picked up the vehicle, Elder said.
