APD Police Cruiser crash closes westbound I-40

At approximately 6:30 a.m., officers were called to what appeared to be a single vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 40, just west of Tramway Rd., involving an Albuquerque Police Cruiser.

According to a report from Officer Robert Gibbs, the officer was not initially responsive and was transported to the University of New Mexico Hospital. At the time of the report, Gibbs said the officer is conscious and talking and is expected to be released from the hospital by the end of the morning.

Details about the cause of the crash are currently under investigation.

Westbound I-40 was closed to traffic and was not reopened until shortly after 10:00 a.m.
