A Bernalillo County grand jury has handed up an eight-count indictment against 15-year-old Nehemiah Griego, who is accused of killing his parents and three younger siblings in the family’s South Valley home on Jan. 19.
The indictment, handed up today, includes five counts of first-degree murder and three counts of intentionally-caused child abuse resulting in the death of a child under 12. Each of the counts includes a firearm enhancement.
Because of his age and the nature of the charges, Griego is being charged as an adult.
Surviving members of Greigo’s family objects to keeping him in the adult system — and to various aspects of the investigation into the killings, which is being conducted by the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office. The family has pleaded for a second chance for Nehemiah Griego.
