Challenger Defeats Robbins By 12 Votes

What started as a razor-thin margin separating two Albuquerque Public Schools board candidates is now about the width of, say, a dull razor, but the County Clerk’s Office is certain it has a winner for District 6.

Don Duran ousted incumbent David Robbins by 12 votes, County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver announced shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The margin in Duran’s favor Tuesday night was two votes. The new tabulation shows Duran collected 1,229 votes to Robbins’ 1,217. Toulouse Oliver could not be reached late Wednesday to explain where the additional votes came from.

Duran and Robbins were running in a four-way race that included incumbent president Paula Maes and challenger Angela Gonzales Carver. Maes and Robbins, both incumbents, ended up running against each other due to redistricting that consolidated board seats on the east side of town.
