My friend Pete and I started the meal by sharing an appetizer of Cactus Fries ($5). Yes, you read that correctly. The basket was piled high with finger-length strips of prickly pear cactus breaded in cornmeal and deep-fried. At either end of the basket were cups of ranch dressing and prickly pear ketchup for dipping. Just add a little salt and pepper. I think it’s fun exploring the flavors of new foods.
For the main course, Pete ordered the Southwestern Monte Cristo ($7.45). He gave it two thumbs up for the taste and the value; it was a thick sandwich (sliced ham, turkey, pepper jack cheese and chopped green chile). Pete did have to pause between bites to let the heat of the chile on his palate cool down. The sandwich was served on egg-dipped sourdough bread.
I got the All Nations Taco ($8). Served on Indian fry bread, it had ground beef, red chile, pinto beans, jack cheese, diced tomatoes and onions and shredded lettuce.
