With New Mexico’s 60-day legislative session nearing its halfway point, Gov. Susana Martinez downplayed partisan differences today while describing the session as “very smooth,” at least so far.
“We’re getting together on bills we think can move quicker, because we’re coming to a compromise early on instead of later in the game,” Martinez told reporters.
Though Martinez did not specify which bills she was referring to, legislation dealing with space travel liability issues and the state’s film incentive program are among the bills that appear to have bipartisan support and the potential to be “fast-tracked.”
Martinez, who spoke in the Capitol rotunda for Culture Day at the Legislature, said she has been meeting frequently with lawmakers during recent weeks.
Sh also signaled she would likely support a compromise approach to removing the “gun show” loophole that members of a House committee approved Friday.
That bill, House Bill 77, is sponsored by Rep. Miguel P. Garcia, D-Albuquerque.
