Sadie’s Planning New Eatery at Old Garduño’s Site

If you’ve driven down Academy Road lately, you might have noticed some activity at the former Garduño’s restaurant.

Turns out Sadie’s is moving in.

Jim Garcia, vice president of operations at Sadie’s, confirmed today that the long-standing New Mexican food restaurant is opening a new location inside the old Garduño’s space.

It will be the eatery’s fourth site.

Many details, including a projected opening date, are still getting worked out, Garcia said, but Sadie’s is expected to make a formal announcement later this week.

The restaurant space — located east of San Mateo — has been empty almost three years. It was one of three Garduño’s shuttered as part of a 2010 bankruptcy.
