Woman hit during DWI pursuit dies
A 21-year-old woman died early Sunday morning when a sergeant driving an Albuquerque Police Department SUV struck a car in which she was a passenger on the West Side, according to police.
Ashley Browder was pronounced dead at the intersection of Paseo del Norte and Eagle Ranch NW, according to Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Jessica Tyler.
Lindsay Browder, 19, who was driving, was taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital. She suffered a broken hip and fractured spine, Tyler said.
Officials have not released the name of the APD sergeant. He was driving west on Paseo del Norte and had engaged his emergency lights and siren in an effort to locate a suspected drunken driver just before 2:30 a.m., Tyler said. He struck the white Honda CR-V driven by Browder on the passenger side, she said.
The APD sergeant was also taken to the hospital for evaluation but had no major injuries, Tyler said.
There is a traffic light at the intersection but Tyler did not know the color of the lights. She also did not know if alcohol was a factor.
Snow expected for Duke City tonight
An inch or two of snow could fall in parts of Albuquerque tonight into Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
A storm is expected to work its way southeast, arriving in New Mexico tonight.
The eastern parts of the city could get 1 to 2 inches while the central parts of the city and into the valley could get a dusting up to an inch of snow, said Todd Shoemake, meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“It might pose a little bit of a surprise for the Tuesday commute,” he said. “There might be an inch or two of snow in some areas of city.”
The storm comes on the heels of a front that brought high winds and snow in northern parts of the state over the weekend.
