Bernalillo to seek funds for track guardrail

The town of Bernalillo plans to ask the Legislature for $250,000 to build a guardrail along the railroad track that runs through the town to protect pedestrians.

Mayor Jack Torres said at a council meeting on Monday night that the recent fatal accident involving a teen who was struck by a train when he walked onto the track shows the need for some form of protection.

If funding is forthcoming, the town would build a 4-foot high fence along each side of the track for a distance of about 2.5 miles.
