Senate confirms State Police chief

State Police Chief Robert Shilling

SANTA FE (AP) — The state Senate has unanimously confirmed the appointment of State Police Chief Robert Shilling.

Shilling was named chief of the state law enforcement agency in April 2011, after Republican Gov. Susana Martinez took office.

The Senate voted Monday to endorse his appointment.

Shilling joined the state police in 1992, and previously worked for the Silver City police department. He was promoted to major in 2008, and two years later became law enforcement budget director and commander of investigations.

Shilling was selected acting state police chief in January 2011, after the retirement of Faron Segotta, who had served as chief since 2006.
