A stripped-down proposal requiring background checks for gun show purchases – which Republican Gov. Susana Martinez said Monday she supports – is headed to a vote by the full House.
It would require background checks when people buy weapons from private sellers at gun shows. Federally licensed firearms dealers at those shows already do background checks.
The original version of House Bill 77 also required background checks for private transactions other than at gun shows, but that has been removed by a House committee.
