N.M. station issued fake zombie alerts

A New Mexico station sent out official emergency alerts this week warning people that dangerous zombies were attacking.

KRQE reported this that KENW in Portales was among several around the country whose emergency alert systems were hacked.

As a result, it  put out alerts on Monday saying, “Local authorities in your area have reported the bodies of the dead are rising from their graves and attacking the living. Do not attempt to approach or apprehend these bodies as they are considered extremely dangerous.”

KRQE  reminds viewers that while the alert was fake, if there is a real zombie attack, the only way to kill a zombie is to sever its head.

(An earlier version of this story reported that KRQE was also among the stations that had been hacked. KRQE officials say that is not the case.)
