Cheddar’s restaurant headed to Duke City

A new casual dining chain is coming to Albuquerque.

Irving, Texas-based Cheddar’s Casual Café confirmed this week that it is planning its first Duke City location.

The Albuquerque Cheddar’s will be located near the Century Rio 24 movie complex on Pan American Freeway. It is expected to open in August.

Construction on the site is scheduled to begin next month.

Founded in 1979, Cheddar’s currently has 130 restaurants in 23 states. Though some are franchises, the Albuquerque site will be company-owned.

The Cheddar’s website touts the chain’s scratch-made food and fair pricing.

While the name may conjure images of cheese, cheese and more cheese, the menu for the El Paso Cheddar’s shows a diverse lineup.

There are steaks, hamburgers, sandwiches and an extensive list of “Classics,” such as grilled catfish, chicken pot pie and “Baked Spasagna,” a spaghetti dish layered with cheeses and spices, baked and then covered in sauce.
