California-based reggae outfit Rebelution will perform two nights in Albuquerque. The band is touring in support of its 2012 album, “Peace of Mind.”
Another dream came true for Eric Rachmany this year. The frontman for California-based reggae band Rebelution got a chance to perform in New Zealand a couple weeks ago.
“It was our first time out there and we had four days to experience the area,” he says during a recent interview from California. “Ever since I was a kid, I dreamed that I’d have a band and we’d travel the world. This was one of our first times over there and we hope to get back soon.”
Rachmany says it was a great experience to play a festival show.
“Reggae is pretty global at this point, but our style is different than other styles and it was good exposure for us,” he says. “We realized that a lot of people don’t know who we are out there, and it was a great challenge for us to participate in.”
Rachmany and the band, which also includes Rory Carey, Wesley Finley and Marley D. Williams, released their current album, “Peace of Mind,” in early 2012. It was an experiment for the band because it was released as a three-disc package. Rachmany says feedback from the fans seemed to be positive.

“What we were aiming at providing was music for every mood,” he says. “We had the regular album. And for a slow day, there was the acoustic version. Then if you wanted to get up and dance, there was the dubstep remixes. It was complete and we’d sure like to do that again.”
Rachmany says he’d like to see the band try to integrate other genres of music.
“The past year has been so inspiring for us,” he says. “We’ve learned a lot about ourselves and what we can accomplish. There are no limits for us right now. We’re at the point where we have a solid fan base and are looking for ways to expand that.”
Rebelution is getting close to a mainstream crossover. When “Peace of Mind” was released in last year, the album debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard top 200 album chart, as well as topping the reggae charts.
