Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry announced this morning that he will run for re-election this year.

He picked up the paperwork today and will privately finance his campaign rather than seek public funding.

Berry, a 50-year-old Republican, is in his first term. Election Day is Oct. 8.

“We’ve made a lot of progress and we’ve done it by working together. There is more to be accomplished and my passion to serve is stronger than ever,” he said in a written statement.

See the Sunday Journal for more.
