Last week, I wrote about a bill that would prevent private, for-profit companies from managing charter schools in New Mexico. That bill, currently in the House Education Committee, is in some ways a response to state education chief Hanna Skandera’s decision to allow a new all-virtual charter school to open next year.
Tomorrow, proponents of virtual schooling will have their day at the Roundhouse. According to a news release I received this morning, tomorrow is New Mexico Virtual Schools Day at the Capitol. Starting at about 9 a.m. tomorrow in room 318 of the Capitol, families will be asking lawmakers to continuing allowing virtual schools, and will then hold presentations and workshops about online school.
According to the news release, presentations will be about effective advocacy, and about current New Mexico politics surrounding online schooling.
