Time for Wine

Local wine lovers have reason to toast this week: the doors to the state’s first Total Wine & More store are set to open at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The package superstore is located in the Cottonwood Corners shopping center on Albuquerque’s West Side, having taken over the 20,000-plus square feet formerly occupied by Border’s. The Maryland-based chain boasts that its selection includes more than 8,000 different wines, 3,000 spirits and 2,500 beers.

As I reported in my last retail column, a Total Wine & More spokesman said the Albuquerque stores — an Uptown location is slated to open this summer — will also carry an assortment of New Mexico-produced products.

Total Wine & More will celebrate its Albuquerque grand opening on Wednesday with wine tastings, educational sessions, live music and more, according to a news release.

The official ribbon-cutting is set for 6 p.m.

Total Wine & More is located at 10420 Coors Bypass NW.
