Fall through school skylight injures boy

A boy was critically injured Monday afternoon when he fell about 35 feet through the skylight of the gym at Taylor Middle School.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s spokesman Aaron Williamson said the boy and three other youths were on the roof of the school, located at 8200 Guadalupe Trail NW, when one boy stepped on the skylight and fell through it.

Williamson said there is no evidence the boys were trying to break in, and were just “horsing around.” School was not in session Monday, due to the Presidents Day holiday.

The boy was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital.

Neither Williamson nor APS spokeswoman Monica Armenta knew the boy’s name, but Williamson said all four boys were middle school-aged.

Williamson said deputies are not planning to charge them with a crime.

Neither Armenta nor Williamson knew the boy’s condition late Monday.
