I awoke to 3 inches of snow in my Albuquerque backyard, which looks like the wettest storm since the water year began Oct. 1, nearly doubling my total precipitation for the period. That’s the good news. The bad news is that this looks like the exception rather than the rule, according to the new long lead forecasts out this morning from the federal Climate Prediction Center:

The colors are not a prediction, but rather a forecast of a shift in the odds. Brown means increased odds of dry, decreased odds of wet.
