Mykonos Cafe Adds Breakfast

It’s a new day at Mykonos Cafe & Taverna — or at least a new morning.

The Greek/Mediterranean restaurant in Albuquerque’s Mountain Run Shopping Center is now doing breakfast. The locally-owned eatery launched the morning menu this week and is serving it daily at 5900 Eubank NE.

“People have been asking, and we’re trying to see if we can make a go of it,” Mykonos owner Joe Cesarano said.

So now you might be asking yourself … what is a Greek breakfast?

It could be anything from rice pudding to smoked pork, according to Greece’s official tourism website, but Mykonos Cafe definitely didn’t go that route.

“The breakfast (menu) is more of a traditional breakfast,” Cesarano said.

Mykonos’ breakfast dishes include huevos rancheros ($8.95), French toast ($6.95) and a chile-smothered breakfast burrito ($7.95).

There are just a few nods to the restaurant’s theme, including the “Mediterranean Scramble,” an egg dish with feta cheese and roasted Roma tomatoes.

Cesarano and his wife bought Mykonos in late 2011. After a year learning the business — Cesarano is an engineer by trade — they are now starting to put their own stamp on the place “without disrupting the foundation of it,” he said.
