Six high-level waste tanks at Hanford now reported to be leaking

Today’s breaking nuclear news comes from Hanford, where Washington state governor Jay Inslee told reporters this afternoon that the Department of Energy now acknowledges that at least six high level waste tanks are leaking. From the Seattle P-I:

A half-dozen old single-shell waste tanks at Hanford are leaking highly radioactive sludge into soil at the Eastern Washington nuclear reservation, Gov. Jay Inslee learned in a briefing Friday from U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu and senior DOE brass.
