As the worldwide Roman Catholic Church says goodbye to Pope Benedict XVI today, the Diocese of Las Cruces also will see a major change today, the Las Cruces Sun-News reported.
The Rev. Oscar Cantu, 46, will be installed today as the second bishop of the Diocese of Las Cruces, replacing Bishop Ricardo Ramirez, who is retiring after serving as overseer of the 46-parish and 45-mission diocese since October 1982, the Sun-News said.
Read the Sun-News interview with Cantu as he shares his goals, impressions and opinions on becoming the bishop over Roman Catholics in 10 New Mexico counties — the southern third of the state.
