An MDC inmate bit through the finger of a jail lieutenant who was trying to put him in a courtroom holding cell on Wednesday, officials said.
Metropolitan Detention Center officers removed Mario Ragsdale, 50, from the courtroom because he was being disruptive by talking to female inmates, according to an email from an MDC spokeswoman.
Ragsdale, who was in court for violating his probation that stemmed from a robbery charge, tried several times to get away from the MDC lieutenant who was taking him into a courthouse holding cell, the email said.
The lieutenant grabbed Ragsdale’s collar in an attempt to subdue him, the email said. That’s when Ragsdale bit down on the lieutenant’s pinky finger — all the way to the bone.
Another MDC officer shot Ragsdale with an electronic stun gun, and the lieutenant hit him in the face several times to free his finger, the email said. Officers eventually got Ragsdale under control and took him back to the West Side jail, where he is now being held without bond on his original charges and an additional felony charge of aggravated battery on a peace officer.
