Band melds circus rock, Gypsy sounds

New Orleans-based quintet Dirty Bourbon River Show is currently putting the finishing touches on its new album, “Vol. 4.”

Noah Adams has luck on his side.

While attending Loyola University in New Orleans and studying film scoring, Adams had an epiphany.

“I was in school and had about a year left,” he explains during a recent phone interview. “I started a trio with a couple friends and we started playing around New Orleans and got noticed by a lot of fans. This was a perfect opportunity to take a chance.”

And the risk paid off. For the past six years, Adams has toured the world with his band The Dirty Bourbon River Show.

The band, which also consists of Dane Schindler, Charlie Skinner, Jimmy Williams and Matt Thomas, has put out three albums and is on its way to completing a fourth, aptly titled “Vol. 4.”

The band is know for its New Orleans style of Gypsy, brass and circus rock. It also has been called vaudevillian.

“We’re a different breed of musician and we find it fun,” Adams explains. “We get out on stage and enjoy everything that we do.”

Adams is the mastermind behind the band. He often crafts the songs and takes them to the band before recording.

Adams admits that, at 20, he got a late start with music.

“I used to be a writer and did some travel stuff and wrote some books,” he says. “When I got the scholarship to Loyola, I wanted to make the best of it.”

Adams says after starting the trio and finding some success in the local scene, he spent the last year of school making a plan and adding two more players.

“I had a choice presented in front of me,” he says. “I could continue to pursue film scoring or I could be in a professional band. This is when I realized that I could score films at any point in my life. So I took the leap and put together a tour. After graduation, we were on our way for a solid tour and that was the beginning.”
