New singer helps Scars Blue in new direction

Dion Tejada always hits the ground running.

Albuquerque band Scars Blue will release its self-titled album on March 1.

Albuquerque band Scars Blue will release its self-titled album on March 1.

The Albuquerque singer for Scars Blue joined the band last year and the band is ready to release its self-titled debut on Friday, March 1.

“Initially the band has been working on music prior to my arrival,” Tejada says. “They were auditioning singers and Tim (Griffiths Garcia) was one of the promoters at a show I was at. I was approached to try out and it happened.”

In addition to its new album, Scars Blue will also have a video coming out on March 27 for its single, “Lies Bleeding.” The band has been together for a couple years and performs locally, though is looking to branch out.

It also consists of Dan “DaNikk” Linich and Jeff Gerdts.

Tejada says he’s been with the band for nine months and when he started in the band, he meshed well.

“I started writing lyrics with them and it was fun,” he says. “That’s how it all came together.”

Griffiths Garcia says recording took place at Studio Savage Monkey in Edgewood and then it was mastered in Florida.

“The mastering they got done pretty quickly,” Griffiths Garcia says. “The album is basically an EP with six songs and it was about a four-month long process.”

Tejada says the band’s bassist did the rough mixing in New Mexico.

Griffiths Garcia says Tejada is a great addition to the band and the band was lucky to get him.

“We tried a couple singers out and they didn’t work out,” he says. “As soon as Dion came in, he caught the groove of the band and he has such a unique voice, it really made a difference with our sound and really joined in on the harmonies.”

Being that Tejada was the newbie to the band, he admits that there were some nerves.

“I had never got into writing original songs,” Tejada explains. “I was always doing covers. It’s become a natural thing now for me to write songs and create music. It was a great learning experience and I can’t wait to make more music with these guys.”
