‘Shylock’ on Jews: victims or comics?

As one of only two Jewish men in William Shakespeare’s “The Merchant of Venice,” Shylock has been portrayed in ways that reflect how Jews were popularly viewed — from comic villains in Shakespeare’s day, to victims of racial discrimination today.

The Lensic Performing Arts Center, 211 W. San Francisco in Santa Fe, will present “Shylock” at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 3. This award-winning, poignant, powerful yet humorous performance stars Guy Masterson and is written and directed by Gareth Armstrong.

Tickets are $15-$35 at www.ticketssantafe.org or 505-988-1234.
