A 10-year-old girl was home alone Thursday morning when three teenagers broke into her southwest-area house, police said, and the suspected burglars started stuffing items into their backpacks.
The girl called 911, and officers quickly responded to the home in the 1900 block of Tierra de la Luna Drive SW, near Arenal Road and Coors Boulevard, Albuquerque Police Department spokeswoman Tasia Martinez said.
The three teenagers were arrested, and all the stolen items were returned, Martinez said.
Two of the suspected burglars have tentatively been linked to another residential burglary that happened last month, Martinez said.
The teens, who police did not identify, were booked into the Bernalillo County Juvenile Detention Center.
Reached at home Thursday evening, a man who appeared to be the girl’s father or guardian declined to comment on the child’s quick thinking.
