Southwest NM drug task force to get more support

ARTESIA, N.M. (AP) — A drug task force in southeastern New Mexico is getting more support.

The Artesia News reports (http://bit.ly/Y1uy2X) that Eddy County Sheriff Scott London said this week that the Pecos Valley Drug Task Force will begin broadening its scope and is adding more agents.

London says a new plan calls for the task force to be restructured and allow for agents to be recruited.

Currently, the drug task force is made up of six officers: a commander, a sergeant and three agents from the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office, and a Carlsbad Police Department agent.

Under the new plan, an officer from the Artesia and Carlsbad Police Departments will be added.

London says the task force also will begin going after street dealers in addition to drug suppliers.
