The deadline to nominate local heroes-ordinary people is March 15 for the American Red Cross in New Mexico program.
Anyone may nominate a local person or group throughout New Mexico who went out of their way to help someone else by a heroic act or unselfish service to others. The Red Cross will honor these heroes in May. This is the fifth year the Red Cross will recognize bravery and courage demonstrated by local individuals and groups. Nomination categories include Heroes in the Military, Emergency Medical, Law Enforcement, Firefighting, Animal Rescue, Workplace, Good Samaritan Adult, Good Samaritan Youth, Disaster Relief and Water Safety. Heroic acts must have taken place during the 2012 calendar year. Nominees must be a resident of, stationed in, or employed in New Mexico. The heroic act or rescue needs to have happened in New Mexico, or by a New Mexican while out of state. Nomination forms are available on line at www.redcrossnewmexico.org or from the Red Cross office at 7445 Pan American Fwy. NE, located south of Journal Center off I-25.
