Border agents nab N.J. murder suspect

U.S. Border Patrol agents in downtown El Paso Monday arrested a Mexican citizen who had an active arrest warrant for murder out of New Brunswick, N.J., the Border Patrol said in a news release.

Marco Antonio Miranda-DeJesus was seen rappelling off the Stanton Street Bridge around 10:35 p.m. Monday in an apparent desperate attempt to enter the United States illegally, the agency said.

He was taken into custody after a brief foot chase, and further investigation using the Integrated Automated Identification System turned up an extensive criminal history, including an active warrant out of New Jersey for first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, gang criminality, conspiracy and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Miranda was processed and charged with illegal entry and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility to await extradition to New Jersey.
