Walmart asst. manager accused of theft

SOCORRO –  A Walmart assistant manager is facing forgery and embezzlement charges after he allegedly tried to steal $2,200 from the store’s safe.

Troy Parrill has a preliminary hearing in Socorro Magistrate Court today on charges of fourth-degree felony embezzlement and fourth-degree felony forgery stemming from a Feb. 1 investigation by the Socorro Police Department.

According to the criminal complaint filed in Magistrate Court, an officer was dispatched to Walmart the afternoon of Feb. 1 to speak to the store’s assistant loss prevention manager, who told the officer one of his managers — Parrill, who works in the cash office — had been stealing money from the safe and the cash drawer.

The assistant loss prevention manager said Parrill admitted taking $2,200 from the safe when he was in the general manager’s office, according to the criminal complaint. After he had told Parrill the cash office came out short and he was investigating the missing money, Parrill put his head down and admitted he took the money.

Parrill told police he admitted to the assistant loss prevention manager that he took $200 in December 2012 and $2,000 on Jan. 27, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint states the assistant loss prevention manager told police Parrill had forged the customer service supervisor’s name on the cash fund transfer log to get the $2,000 on Jan. 27.

When the officer met with Parrill in the general manager’s office, before being asked any questions, Parrill told the officer, “I did take the money,” according to the criminal complaint. When asked why, Parrill said his mother had passed away and he needed the money to bring her remains to his father.

The officer examined surveillance video, which showed Parrill taking money and attempting to avoid cameras, according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint then states Parrill was handcuffed and jailed on the two charges of forgery and embezzlement.
