No. 1 Roswell vs. No. 9 Espanola Valley (LIVE)

At the Pit in Class 4A boys quarterfinal action on Wednesday (3/13):

1st Quarter:
Roswell’s Cesar Nava scored 12 points to lead Coyotes to a 20-7 lead after one period. Roswell hit 7 pf 11 from the field, while forcing four EV turnovers. … Sundevils went hit 2 of 7 from the field.

2nd Quarter:
Roswell’s largest lead of the game, 24-10, came at 5:46 in the second period on jumper by Nava. … EV rallies back to within 29-20 with 1:01 remaining in the half, but a 3-pointer by Mathew Sedillo in the final seconds re-ups the Coyote lead to 32-20 at the break. … At the half, Jared Garduno leads EV in scoring with nine points, followed by Elias Archuleta with eight. … Nava goes into the break leading all scorers with 17 points on 7-for-8 shooting.

3rd Quarter:
EV senior Nathan Archuleta scores first basket of the half, but Roswell responds with a 10-4 run to take its largest lead of the game, 45-27, at the 5:21 mark. ... The Coyotes ups lead to 51-32, but EV’s Kyle Gains scores eight-straight points to close to 51-40. … Nava scores at buzzer, 53-40.

4th Quarter:
Roswell leads 60-47 with 4:11 remaining. … Coyotes content on slowing down the pace and running out the clock. … Roswell leads 63-47 inside final 1:24. … Coyotes struggle from line down the stretch, hitting just 2 of 6, including misses on the front end of two plus-one free-throw attempts.
