All That Remains enjoys the audience energy when it does Albuquerque shows.
Heading back to Japan is a bittersweet experience for members of All That Remains.
Last time the band made a trip to Asia, the members were thankful to be alive.
On March 11, the band returned to Japan almost two years to the day that a devastating earthquake hit.
“The last time sucked because there was that earthquake and it was terrifying,” guitarist Mike Martin said. “We were sound checking. They had had an earthquake the day before and we thought, ‘Good, we got it out of the way,’ and then everything started shaking and I hated every second of it. It was my birthday.”
Martin said the band’s horrific experience didn’t result in any new songs by the band.
“Every song would have been, ‘thank God we’re alive,’ so no, it didn’t inspire any music,” Martin explained.
Despite the disaster, All That Remains continues to be enthusiastic about playing for its Japanese fans.
“It’s incredible,” Martin said. “The people are so excited that you’re there. It’s very rare. The energy is just outrageous. It’s great.”

Martin also spoke of the energy in Albuquerque.
“Albuquerque, it’s incredible,” Martin said. “It’s always good, that part of the country. It’s better than other parts. (There’s) something about that area, it seems the energy is a little bit more than anywhere else.”
Martin said he also is anticipating a visit to Tucanos Brazilian Grill, a short walk from the Sunshine Theater. But, he joked that the restaurant known for its endless meat, chicken and pork skewers will have him making extra trips to the gym and possibly require him to do some laps around the stage.
The band is currently promoting its latest release, “A War You Cannot Win.”
