The KiMo Theatre will continue its New Mexico Film Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, with Billy Wilder’s “Ace in the Hole,” a 1951 movie that also was shown under the title “The Big Carnival,” starring Kirk Douglas and Jan Sterling, the KiMo said in a news release.
The classic and controversial film shows a broke, frustrated former New York reporter named Chuck Tatum (played by Douglas) who lands a job with an Albuquerque newspaper, then tries to make his way back to the big time by turning a local tragedy into a media circus.
“Ace in the Hole” was shot on location around New Mexico, including scenes in Gallup and Laguna Pueblo, according to the release.
It is the first of eight films to be shown this year in the KiMo’s New Mexico Film Series, to be followed at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, with the Western comedy “City Slickers,” a 1991 film starring Billy Crystal and Jack Palance.
General admission tickets for each film is $7 for adults, $5 for seniors and students.
