Dancers will do the tango and more

It’s time to dance — or enjoy some dance. The New Mexico Dance Challenge will be held today through Sunday, March 24 at the Crown Plaza Hotel, 1901 University NE. The event begins at 6 tonight with American Smooth, followed by International Latin dances for amateurs and professionals. There also will be the Southwest Open Salsa Championship held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23. The event also will showcase local talent. Tickets for the three-day event range from $10-$30. Strings + vocals = Adobe Brothers

Four Albuquerque musicians who play under the name of The Adobe Brothers will be in concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28 in Simms Auditorium at Albuquerque Academy, 6400 Wyoming NE. The musicians — they’re not really blood brothers — are Jimmy Abraham (Jacoby Adobe), Wayne Shrubsall (Moby Adobe), Terry Bluhm (Pierogi Adobe) and Bruce Thomson (Toby Adobe). They all sing and play a variety of stringed instruments. They classify their music as bluegrass and Americana. The free concert is part of Albuquerque Academy’s Community Concert Series and is open to the public.

Mexican film fest kicks off with love

Mexico’s golden age of cinema is coming to Albuquerque. The KiMo Theatre, 423 W. Central, and the Consulate of Mexico are presenting Cine de la Època de Oro Film Festival and it begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 28 with the film, “Enamorada/Enamoured.” The 1946 drama stars María Félix and Pedro Armendáriz and is presented in Spanish with English subtitles. It follows the Mexican Revolution times, where a general, played by Armendáriz, falls for a woman, played by Félix, and their love story grows. Admission to the film is free and there will be concessions available at the theater. For more information visit www.kimotickets.com.

Glimpse the changing seasons

The weather is getting warmer and it’s time to head outside. The Petroglyph National Monument and the Albuquerque Astronomical Society will host a solar observation during its “Spring Equinox Solar” event from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at the Petroglyph National Monument Visitor Center, Unser at Western Trail NW. Organizers will have white-light filters and single-stack and double-stacked hydrogen-alpha filtered solar scopes for safely viewing the sun. There are no fees associated with this event and registration isn’t required. For more information call 899-0205 ext. 338.

Comedians crack jokes at The Box

They’re bound to get some laughs. Albuquerque-based comedy producing group Broad Humor is presenting the touring comedy show “Lezberados” at 10:30 tonight at The Box Performance Space, 114 Gold SW. The show features Los Angeles comedians Sandra Valls and Mimi Gonzalez. Valls and Gonzalez are comedians who have appeared on HBO comedy specials, as well as in the “Latino Laugh Festival.” The show will be hosted by Albuquerque-based comedians Sarah Mowrey and Sarah Kennedy, who started Broad Humor.
