A script of ”Breaking Bad,” the Albuquerque-based TV series that has garnered national attention, is missing following a break-in earlier this month to lead actor Bryan Cranston’s vehicle.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s office arrested Xavier McAfee, 29, on Friday, in connection with the break-in but have not recovered the script, spokesman Deputy Aaron Williamson said.
According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, the break-in occurred December 20, 2012, while Cranston’s vehicle was parked at the Sandia Crest. Cranston reported that a shoulder bag containing his Apple iPad and a script of the Breaking Bad series was missing.
Williamson said information from an informant led them to assign the case to the High Enforcement Action or HEAT team.
Investigators are “actively following” information obtained from the arrest of McAfee, he said.
According to the criminal complaint, a sheriff’s office investigator contacted an employee of Cranston’s who said she had been contacted by a confidential informant that had information about the break-in. The informant said they saw McAfee in a bar bragging about how he broke into a vehicle at the Sandia Crest and had an iPad and a script of the series, according to the criminal complaint.
Cranston stars in the series as Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher who becomes involved in making and selling meth. The series is in its final season.
